Homeopathy

Homeopathy is the second most widely used system of medicine in the world, and a growing body of literature and personal experiences testify to its effectiveness. The name derives from the Greek homoeo (‘similar') and pathos (‘suffering') and, works on the following three principles:

  • Like Cures Like
The appropriate remedy is that which, in large quanties, would produce a similar effect to that which is being experienced.
  • Minimal Dose
The remedy is taken in a very dilute form.
  • Single Remedy
Even when many symptoms are experienced, only a single remedy, aimed at all the symptoms, is taken

Homoeopathy Simply Explained

Homoeopathy is an effective and scientific system of healing which assists the natural tendency of the body to heal itself. It recognises that all symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person and that it is the patient who needs treatment not the disease.

Different people react in different ways to the same illness, and in order to find the correct remedy your homoeopath will need to know, not only your physical symptoms but also as much as possible about yourself and how your symptoms affect you.

Homoeopathic remedies cannot cause side effects and you cannot become addicted to them. This is because only a minute amount of the active ingredient is used in a specially prepared form.

Benefits of Homeopathy

Whilst the principle of treating like with like dates back to Hippocrates (468 - 377BC), modern Homeopathy was developed by the work of Samuel Hahnemann (1755 - 1843) and James Tyler Kent (1849 - 1916). Its popularity grows by the year, based upon the following benefits:

  • It is completely safe, even for babies and pregnant women, and in conjunction with other medicines
    There are no side-effects
  • It is natural, with remedies based upon natural ingredients
  • It works in harmony with your immune system
  • The remedies are not addictive
  • It is holistic; by treating all the symptoms as one it effectively treats the root cause, making recurrence of symptoms less likely

How does it work?

Homoeopathic remedies work by stimulating the bodies own healing power. This power is very great and many complaints heal themselves unaided, but when the healing process is faulty blocked or slow the homoeopathic remedy acts as a stimulus to the curative powers of the body. To provide this stimulus your homoeopath must prescribe the right remedy and the right dosage for you.
